BeK3 CANbus AMF controller
The AMF controller BeK3 is a 3-phase Automatic Mains Failure that includes a generator & engine controller. It connects, via CANBUS, to engines with ECU (SAE-J1939) but it works also with standard engines if analog sensors or digital sensors are available.
All parameters, alarms and operating functions are indicated by means of a 128X64 graphic display capable of operating in a temperature range between -25°C and +70°C. Measurements including Vac, Aac, Vdc, kVA, kVar, kW, Energy, Pf, Hz, hour count, R.p.m., Oil Pressure, Engine Temperature, Battery Vdc (Engine) and Fuel Level. A monitoring and control software program is provided free of charge. The BeK3 provides MODBUS via RS485 and complies with NFPA-110 / NFPA-99 specifications. The optional module TCP-IP Server will allow you TCP-IP connection to INTERNET via a ROUTER. By using the Be16 module you can control the AMF Controller BEK3 from a remote location by using short messages (SMS) via GSM modem. You can download application for your mobile phone for a quick use of the messages. You can use also our RS485-USB converter to connect a computer as far as 1000 meters away. THE BEK3 FRONT FASCIA

You can prevent generator failures by using the GSM based remote monitoring system
By using the RS485 serial interface fitted on the top-rear of the BeK3 controller you can communicate with a remote computer using the MODBUS protocol. You can connect a computer as far as 1000 meters away. You are required to download our free of charge software for generator control monitoring. We recommend that you use our INDUSTRIAL-GRADE RS485-USB converter able to drive long cable without problem. A 1-meter long USB cable is factory provided. A software for parameters configuration is available as well.
By using the Be16 module, you can control the generator via mobile phone. You can send messages, with a particular syntax. The BE16 will translate your SMS in command for the BEK3. You will be able to change the mode of operation, start / stop the engine and many other functions. The BE16 provides a 'clean' power supply for the MODEM as well. The system is a simple PLUG and PLAY module. You can easily configure the Be16 by using SMS of if you feel more comfortable, by using a computer.
This is the most flexible way to control and monitor your diesel generator. You are required to connect our TCP-IP server to a Router. You will be able to communicate with your generator from any place using remote computer client . Our server is able to work also in a LAN configuration. So you can connect your generator to a computer by directly using the Ethernet cable.

The removable plug JG allows you the connection of the RS485 serial interface. The internal driver will allow you to use a 1000 m cable long.

AMF CONTROLLER BEK3 OUTPUT RELAYS
On the removable connector JC you are required to wire the auxiliary relays. The Bek3 provides a common supply rail (JC8). It is about a dc supply suitable for automotive relays that includes over voltage protection, short circuit protection and EMI protection. You are required to use 90-200 OHM dc coil relays (12 V or 24V according to your engine battery). The removable connectors JP and JL are provided for the connection of the CURRENT TRANSFORMERS suitable for current monitoring of the EARTH FAULT and current monitoring of the 3-PHASE GENERATOR. A /5 transformers are required in the range 50 up to 9900 Amps.
AMF CONTROLLER BEK3 MAINS & GENERATOR CONNECTIONS
The JA removable plug is used to connect the Mains & Generator voltages. Electrical parameters must be in the range 80-600V and 20-99HZ. The version BeK3-400Hz is normally available on request for Aircraft Ground Support equipment. Protection fuses are highly recommended for cable protections.
The connector JF is used for the ANALOG and DIGITAL sensor fitted on the engine. Terminals for CANBUS are provided on this connector also (your ECU must be SAE J1939 compliant).

After making an AMF panel, you are required to simulate engine running conditions for AMF controller Bek3. This will allow you to test the INPUTS/OUTPUTS that control the engine. The amf controller BeK3 inhibits the starter motor when the engine starts running. When the engine is not running, the voltage of the terminal D+/WL of the belt charger alternator, connected to input JI-3, is 0V. When you activate the fuel solenoid output (JC7), the JI3 terminal provides current to excite the alternator (a few hundreds milliamps). This current flows into D+/W.L. terminal. When the starter motor begins to turn, a small dc voltage starts to appear on the D+/W.L terminal. When the engine starts running, the voltage of the D+/WL terminal increases; the range to terminate the crank is in between 6V up to 10V. The default parameter for [CRANK VDC] is 8.0V. For a 24V battery, we recommend that you set the threshold to 16V. For a safe use, make sure that the green ENGINE RUNNING LED on the front panel is off during all of the starting attempts. The charger alternator voltage (in other words the D+/WL voltage) can be displayed in the engine menu. In addition, BeK3 monitors the generator for disconnecting the crank motor. For this reason, the insertion of switches or breakers in series to terminals #JA5-6-7 is not recommended; the BeK3 will not detect the engine running condition from the generator voltage or frequency. When you test your panel, in factory, sometimes, not having the engine, you are required to simulate the charger alternator. Follow the instructions.
a) Connect the JI3 to battery minus via a switch; when the switch is closed, you simulate a 'NOT RUNNING ENGINE
b) Before 'starting' the engine (MANUAL mode or AUTO mode) make sure the switch is closed.
c) Activate the start; the BEK3 will energize the FUEL SOLENOID OUTPUT (terminal JC7) and will immediately activate the START OUTPUT also (terminal JC4).
d) Open the switch; the JI3 terminal will reach the battery voltage (via the internal pull up resistor) providing an 'ENGINE RUNNING STATUS'.
f) The BEK3 will turn on the green indicator 'ENGINE RUNNING'and deactivates immediately the START OUTPUT (terminal JC4).
The mode of operation is selected by push buttons. If the Be-K3 was in TEST or AUTO prior to power down, when you switch on the power supply, the BeK3 enters the AUTO mode. In the other cases, the BeK3 will enter the OFF mode. CLICK ON THE IMAGE
AMF CONTROLLER MANUAL MODE OF OPERATION
Push the [MAN] push button to select the MAN mode. Push one of the [I-START] push button until engine starts; the display will automatically open the ‘ENGINE STATUS PAGE’ with information about the start sequence. During cranking the BeK3 turns off the light of the display.
When the engine is running, the green LED, on the engine drawing, turns on. To stop the engine, push one of the [0-STOP] push button until the [STOPPING] message appears on the display. If the engine has already stopped, it is possible to reset the stop sequence by pressing the [0-STOP] push button.
AMF CONTROLLER MANUAL CONTROL OF A CIRCUIT BREAKER
Select the MAN mode, start the engine and wait until the green LED Generator Available turns on. Push the [ KG ] push button to close the circuit breaker of the Generator. To transfer the load to the Mains wait for the Green Light Mains available and push the [ KM ] push button: the KG will open and KM will close after a 2-seconds delay; the programmable changeover timer works only in AUTO mode.
To open a circuit breaker, push the [ O ] push button at anytime.
AMF CONTROLLER BEK3 AUTO MODE OF OPERATION
The AMF controller Be-K3 can start the engine at anytime. Do not work on equipment, which is controlled by the BeK3. When servicing the engine, disconnect the battery and battery charger. We recommend that warning signs be placed on equipment indicating the above.
Push the [AUTO] push button until the yellow LED illuminates. The engine starts when the BeK3 detects a Mains failure (see section 9.01 for settings). The circuit breaker of the Mains opens after the [MAINS BREAKER] timing. After the [WARM UP] time if the voltage and frequency are within the settings, the circuit breaker of the Generator will close. If the Mains restores, the KG will open. The KM will close following a programmed [KM CHANGEOVER] timing.
The engine will stop after a [ COOL DOWN ] time. If the engine shuts down, because of an alarm, the KM closes independently of the Mains status if the [ NFPA-110 ] is on, otherwise the KM will close only if the parameters of the Mains are within the programmed settings. In AUTO mode, the BeK3 will periodically test the engine if the periodic test is correctly programmed. During the test, the yellow LED of the AUTO mode will continue to blink. In AUTO mode, the Be-K3 can start and stop the engine if a remote control is activated (Table 9.07 options  or ). You can stop the engine at anytime by selecting the MAN mode. (*)NOTE
AMF Controller BeK3 TEST mode of operation
Push and hold the [ AUTO ] push button until the yellow LED starts to blink. The BeK3 will start the engine and transfer the load to the Generator only in case of Mains failure if not otherwise programmed by the parameter
[ KG TEST CONTROL ] (section 8.03). To exit the TEST mode, push the [ AUTO ] push button shortly or select an another mode of operation. (*)NOTE
(*)NOTE: If you push the [ 0-STOP ] push button when the BeK3 is in AUTO or TEST, the [LOCAL EMERGENCY] alarm will energize. To clear the alarm, select the OFF mode.
