The AMF controller BeK3 is a 3-phase Automatic Mains Failure that includes a generator & engine controller. It connects, via CANBUS, to engines with ECU (SAE-J1939) but it works also with standard engines if analog sensors or digital sensors are available. All parameters, alarms and operating functions are indicated by means of a 128X64 graphic display capable of operating in a temperature range between -25°C and +70°C. Measurements including Vac, Aac, Vdc, kVA, kVar, kW, Energy, Pf, Hz, hour count, R.p.m., Oil Pressure, Engine Temperature, Battery Vdc (Engine) and Fuel Level. A monitoring and control software program is provided free of charge. The BeK3 provides MODBUS via RS485 and complies with NFPA-110 / NFPA-99 specifications. The optional module TCP-IP Server will allow you TCP-IP connection to INTERNET via a ROUTER. By using the Be16 module you can control the AMF Controller BEK3 from a remote location by using short messages (SMS) via GSM modem. BEK3 OUTPUT RELAYS
On the removable connector JC you are required to wire the auxiliary relays. The Bek3 provides a common supply rail (JC8). It is about a dc supply suitable for automotive relays that includes over voltage protection, short circuit protection and EMI protection. You are required to use 90-200 OHM dc coil relays (12 V or 24V according to your engine battery). The removable connectors JP and JL are provided for the connection of the CURRENT TRANSFORMERS suitable for current monitoring of the EARTH FAULT and current monitoring of the 3-PHASE GENERATOR. A /5 transformers are required in the range 50 up to 9900 Amps.
MAINS & GENERATOR CONNECTIONS
The JA removable plug is used to connect the Mains & Generator voltages. Electrical parameters must be in the range 80-600V and 20-99HZ. The version BeK3-400Hz is normally available on request for Aircraft Ground Support equipment. Protection fuses are highly recommended for cable protections. The connector JF is used for the ANALOG and DIGITAL sensor fitted on the engine.
CANBUS & MODBUS CONNECTIONS
Terminals for CANBUS are provided on this connector also (your ECU must be SAE J1939 compliant). The removable plug JG allows you the connection of the RS485 serial interface. The internal driver will allow you to use a 1000 m cable long.
BEK3 FRONT FASCIA
The button 1 is a multifunctional pushbutton. Main function is to silence the horn and acknowledge alarms. The secondary function will allow you miscellaneous tasks about programming.
Pushbuttons group 2. Basically it is about manual start and manual stop of the engine. Start button works only in manual mode of operation. STOP buttons are always active. Take care in using them. As a matter of fact, there are multiple buttons that make the same functions.
This esponentially prolongs the life of the front panel. By using programmable inputs you can activate these buttons from a remote location.The buttons included in the area 3 allows you to manually control the status of the contactors or the status of the motorized transfer switch.
In auto mode of operation only the 'O' button is enabled. This means that you can open a contactor at anytime. Take care in using it, it may cause the stop of the engine. Group '4' of buttons is used to enter the MANUAL, AUTO or TEST mode of operation. You can program some configurable inputs in a way that you can activate the buttons form a remote location.
Finally the group '5' of buttons makes the controller an user friendly equipment. Despite the fact that the display automatically shift the pages of the instruments according to the status of the generator, these navigation buttons allows you to ovverride the display AUTO-PILOT.
Also in this case you can remotely control the navigations buttons by using configurable inputs.

The BEK3 features solid-state LED lamps that allow you immediately understand the status of the AMF controller. Green LEDs stands for normal-active status like a contactor CLOSED.
Yellow LEDs indicate warning or alarms. Red indicators are used for important alarms or shut-downs. Green LED indicators for voltage may blink if voltage or freqeuncy is out of limits.
Voltage indicators are continuously lit when volatge and frequency are within preset limits. LED voltage indicators are OFF when there is no voltage or frequency. Watch the video for better understanding.
The area  includes the main LEDS alarm indicators. An indicator turns on when BEK3 detects an alarm. Could be a warning (yellow) or a shutdown (red). All information about alarms are stored in non volatile memory and the display  provides full description.
The BeK3 can monitor up to 95 alarms and over 150 alarms coming from CANBUS. The event history software can permanently records and store up to 200 alarm events. Use the navigation buttons  to browse the alarm history.
The yellow button  will allow you to silence the horn and acknowledge the alarm. The button  may be necessary to totally clear the alarm and restore a mode of operation.
MANUAL MODE OF OPERATION
Push the [MAN] push button to select the MAN mode. Push one of the [I-START] push button until engine starts; the display will automatically open the ‘ENGINE STATUS PAGE’ with information about the start sequence. During cranking the BeK3 turns off the light of the display.
When the engine is running, the green LED, on the engine drawing, turns on. To stop the engine, push one of the [0-STOP] push button until the [STOPPING] message appears on the display. If the engine has already stopped, it is possible to reset the stop sequence by pressing the [0-STOP] push button.
CONTROL OF A CIRCUIT BREAKER
Select the MAN mode, start the engine and wait until the green LED Generator Available turns on. Push the [ KG ] push button to close the circuit breaker of the Generator. To transfer the load to the Mains wait for the Green Light Mains available and push the [ KM ] push button: the KG will open and KM will close after a 2-seconds delay; the programmable changeover timer works only in AUTO mode.
AUTO MODE OF OPERATION
The AMF controller Be-K3 can start the engine at anytime. Do not work on equipment, which is controlled by the BeK3. When servicing the engine, disconnect the battery and battery charger. We recommend that warning signs be placed on equipment indicating the above.
Push the [AUTO] push button until the yellow LED illuminates. The engine starts when the BeK3 detects a Mains failure (see section 9.01 for settings). The circuit breaker of the Mains opens after the [MAINS BREAKER] timing. After the [WARM UP] time if the voltage and frequency are within the settings, the circuit breaker of the Generator will close. If the Mains restores, the KG will open. The KM will close following a programmed [KM CHANGEOVER] timing.
The engine will stop after a [ COOL DOWN ] time. If the engine shuts down, because of an alarm, the KM closes independently of the Mains status if the [ NFPA-110 ] is on, otherwise the KM will close only if the parameters of the Mains are within the programmed settings. In AUTO mode, the BeK3 will periodically test the engine if the periodic test is correctly programmed. During the test, the yellow LED of the AUTO mode will continue to blink. In AUTO mode, the Be-K3 can start and stop the engine if a remote control is activated (Table 9.07 options  or ). You can stop the engine at anytime by selecting the MAN mode.
Push and hold the [ AUTO ] push button until the yellow LED starts to blink. The BeK3 will start the engine and transfer the load to the Generator only in case of Mains failure if not otherwise programmed by the parameter [ KG TEST CONTROL ] (section 8.03). To exit the TEST mode, push the [ AUTO ] push button shortly or select an another mode of operation.
